The Site and Patient Networks division of QuintilesIMS houses an award-winning, global marketing and communications agency with approximately 150 staff based in key offices in the UK and US, as well as on-the-ground support in Europe and Australia. We specialize in engaging and communicating with patients and healthcare professionals on a range of healthcare topics, ranging from clinical trial awareness to medical education and support. We do this on behalf of an impressive list of the top biopharmaceutical and life sciences clients.


We are seeking an experienced medical writer to join our medical writing team at a senior level.

You will develop Sponsor communication programmes (in patient recruitment or retention), demonstrating in-depth knowledge and understanding of relevant scientific and clinical data for the product and will have the ability to rapidly get up to speed. You will also act as the main medical writer delivering high quality outputs on complex client programmes, requiring minimal input from medical writing leads, and delivered within timelines.

The successful candidate will have the ability to work autonomously, and demonstrate initiative and excellent organisational skills along with keen attention to detail; work across a number of multi-functional teams from across the Scientific Affairs and Medical Writing (SAMW team), Site & Patient Networks and other QuintilesIMS Divisions.

The ideal candidate will have first-hand experience of clinical trials communications with some proven experience writing for patients and/or on clinical projects.

This position also offers some flexibility to work from home.

Required capabilities & experience:

Some experience writing for patients and/or on clinical projects - ideally
First-hand experience of clinical trials communications
Excellent attention to detail
Concise and logical writing style
Ability to adapt writing style to meet the needs of different audiences (from lay to clinical)
Ability to write to a brief and meet the required specifications and objectives, and follow industry guidelines and style guides
Ability to perform multiple tasks and prioritise work effectively
Adaptable and able to concentrate and maintain focus under time pressure
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, managers, and clients
Quick learner and self-starter
Proven ability to informally mentor less experienced colleagues
Previous medical writing experience, or writing experience gained in a related clinical role. Likely to be from a Medical Communications Agency, or another CRO or pharmaceutical company, or relevant healthcare writing role within the public sector. Previous experience in an equivalent role at a CRO or clinical comms agency would be preferred.
A PhD and/or relevant bachelor’s degree in a scientific or medical field
Demonstrable knowledge/understanding of drug development and clinical trials
Proven experience in writing in the medical/scientific and/or clinical communications field
Full eligibility to work full time in the UK
